How to Sell More Jewelry Directly from Your Blog
copyright by Rena Klingenberg
Your blog is an excellent tool for selling your jewelry online. In fact, many jewelry artists sell their work exclusively from their blogs.
You can stir up your readers' interest in your work by blogging about how your jewelry is created, what's unique about a particular piece or component, what the piece signifies to you, what happened while you were creating it, etc.
Basically, give the piece of jewelry a history and an interesting story. Let the tale unfold over a few blog posts.
Stories sell jewelry. And stories told in episodes gain more readers with each new episode.
Use your blog to build up anticipation for each new piece of jewelry or new design you're working on. Build suspense and desire – and then unveil the piece. Launch it with a bit of fanfare. Invite readers to comment.
You can put a discreet “buy now” button right there in your blog, directly beneath the photo of the newly unveiled piece of jewelry. Many artists are able to sell each new piece they make, directly from their blog, with these techniques.
Remember that your jewelry blog visitors don't just want information; they want to be entertained. And the better you entertain them, the more they'll bring other people to your blog – and to your jewelry.
It's sort of the modern version of being a traveling artist in Medieval days – you gather an interested crowd by spinning stories and entertaining your audience as you make jewelry.
When the jewelry is finished and its story has been told, there's always a well-entertained customer eager to buy it. And the rest of the crowd spreads the word to tell their friends and family about the entertaining jewelry artist.
Repeat this process indefinitely. And once you really develop a following and people see how fast your new stuff disappears, your new pieces will go even faster.
People will pay for things they love, regardless of the price. Your job is to help them fall in love with it, and feel the urgency to buy it before someone else does.
Occasionally post blog entries to tell stories about other things that your audience would laugh about or care deeply about. But make it into a personal conversation with them, putting your own words and heart into it.
This kind of story can be triggered by something you saw in the news, or in another blog or forum. For example, if you're making mothers' bracelets and your market is moms, you might share an emotional story you read about saving childhood memories.
Make your readers laugh, make them cry, make them feel.
Emotions are powerful, and if you can make your audience feel something, they'll come back for more – and share it with their friends.

Get Your Jewelry Noticed Online by Using Good Keyword Tags
copyright by Rena Klingenberg
"Tagging" is an important tool for getting your jewelry found on the Internet.
A tag is a keyword assigned to a piece of content. It's a relevant word or phrase that describes and classifies the item so it can be easily found later.
Almost any form of online content can have tags assigned to it – a web page, a blog post, a photo, a video, bookmarked content, etc.
Good tags will help your jewelry get found by people who are searching for what you have to offer!
Unfortunately, many people rush through tagging, quickly slapping just one or two weak tags onto their content – thereby throwing away a golden opportunity for traffic and links.
Don't make that mistake with your tags.
Taking the time to thoroughly tag your jewelry photos, articles, blog posts, etc. is worth far more than the minute it takes you to do it!
You'll get better results from your tags if you include keywords your customers are most likely to use for your content and your jewelry.
Try these tagging strategies:
*When you tag your own items, try to use both general words and specific words that will help your stuff get found often. Take the time to add as many tags as you can think of that are relevant to the item.
*If the site where you're tagging your jewelry has a “popular tags” tag-cloud, use as many relevant popular tags from it as possible.
*Use multiple forms of each tag word (for example: bead, beads, beaded, beading) to create more opportunities for your content to be found.
*Use misspellings. Many people know what they want, but don't know how to spell it when they're searching for it. Including misspelled tags is an easy way to pick up extra traffic from these folks.
*Don't use tags that aren't relevant to your content.
*Don't feel like you have to limit yourself to using just a few tags. It's okay to use as many as a dozen of them when tagging your jewelry photos or content.
Think of your tags as breadcrumb trails leading customers to your jewelry!

Grow Your Online Jewelry Business the Friendly Way
copyright by Rena Klingenberg
Most social networking sites have a "Friends" feature. You can use this feature to keep track of other members on that site whose content, links, or other activities interest you.
But even better, the Friends feature also gives you an opening for connecting and building relationships with other members.
When another member adds you as their Friend in an online social community, your profile will now be more easily found by their Friends, which can help you quickly gain a lot of exposure to more people on that site.
On some social sites you'll find that you've received a couple of Friend requests as soon as you've finished the signup process – usually one from the site's administrator, and sometimes from one or two other members as well.
This means these people would like to add you to their collection of Friends on that site, and have you do the same with them.
Sending or receiving a Friend request is a golden opportunity to meet someone, interact, network – and basically do exactly what you joined the social site to do!
So whenever you receive a Friend request, don't just click "accept" and move on.
Instead, do the whole Friendly thing. Go ahead and accept the request, and take the extra step of sending this new Friend a brief comment or message, thanking them for the invitation. Take a look at your new Friend's profile, website, blog, photos, etc. - and refer to something specific you see there that strikes a chord within you, or that you have in common with them. This is an excellent way to start a Friendship!
Similarly, when you come across fellow social site members you'd like to add to your collection of Friends, send them a Friend request – and also a nice comment or message related to something you see in their profile.
Of course the purpose of meeting and adding new Friends is not just to gather the biggest possible list of people. As with everything else in social networking, quality is far more important than quantity.
Making Friends on social sites is a relationship game, not a numbers game.
That's why your goal in meeting and adding new Friends is to encourage communication and the beginning of mutually beneficial friendships. So don't stop after one communication. Whenever you find a fellow member you really click with, keep the messages – and the friendship – going.
When you participate in online communities, be an active part of the flow of abundance by being as sincerely generous to other members as you can. You'll be amazed at the generosity that flows back to you naturally.
Give before taking. Listen before talking. Help others before asking for help. Promote other people's businesses before expecting them to promote yours.
Be a true Friend, and your social networking will be personally rewarding as well as extremely effective for your jewelry business!

Get Maximum Jewelry Traffic from Your Social Networking Activity
copyright by Rena Klingenberg
So what do you talk about on the social networking sites where your potential customers are?
Whatever they're talking about.
For example, if you make horse-themed jewelry and you're on a horse-related networking site, join in and chat about horses, saddles, trail rides, etc. . . . but *not* about the horse-themed jewelry you make (unless someone else mentions your jewelry first).
Don't worry – your niche social website friends will most definitely find your jewelry naturally as you participate in the site, and they visit your profile page there.
On your profile page of that social networking site, your uploaded jewelry photos and links to your jewelry blog / storefront will do all the marketing you need. Subtlety is the key to success here!
Once you've created your "power profile" page on a social networking site, your job is to become an active part of the community, make friends, and build genuine relationships with the other folks there.
So let your profile page link and your profile photo do the talking for your jewelry business, while you concentrate on simply contributing useful, friendly posts to the community (which spreads your profile link everywhere!).
How to Get More Views for Your Social Networking Activity
*Post your friendly, useful replies as close as possible to the beginning of forum or comment threads. More people will see your posts there as they read the whole thread and decide whether to join in on the conversation.
*Watch each social site closely to determine its busiest time of day. Try to schedule your main posting time there for just before the daily crowd hits. The freshest posts will be seen first, so this is a good way to be seen by a bigger audience.
*Some networking sites have two busy times of day – one in the morning and another in the evening – so keep an eye out for that trend too.
*Also watch for the busiest days of the week. Some social sites have more traffic and activity on weekdays, others on weekends. Try to schedule at least some of your activity there for the busiest days.
*Use curiosity-provoking, relevant titles for your social site posts and uploaded content. Any time you have the opportunity to give something a title on a social site, take a moment to come up with something that grabs attention and begs to be clicked on. (Of course it should also be tasteful, relevant to the content it leads to, and in line with the site's culture.)
*Look at some of the most popular content on the social sites you frequent, and check out the titles. That's a good way to get a feel for what gets the click on that site.
*Get busy commenting, responding to, and voting on other people's content on the site. The more you add to the site, the more places you're making your link available for other site members to click on!
